Our Church Response to COVID-19
We are certainly in unprecedented times as a community and even as a nation, but as a Church family it is imperative that we remember in times such as these that one precedent never fails or falters, and that is that we serve an almighty God who holds the world in his hands and genuinely desires what is best for his children. The leadership of Hagood Avenue Baptist Church has been continuously monitoring the protocols of local school districts, medical experts, and other churches. We want to make sure that we are being proactive and using the best precautions we can when it comes to our church family. We love each and everyone of you and want to best care for you both spiritually and physically.
After prayerful deliberation and discussion, the Staff and Deacon body at Hagood Avenue Baptist Church have collectively agreed that we believe what is best for our church is to temporarily suspend all services until at least April 1, 2020, effective immediately. This decision models what our state and local officials have setup for our school system. This was certainly not an easy decision, and please know and trust that this was a decision made entirely out of love for our brothers and sisters at Hagood.
Since we will not be holding services, this also means that we will not be having the Barnwell County Passion Play on the original dates of March 27-29. We are working diligently in hopes of postponing the play to a later date. So things will stay in place until we know more.
In the meantime, we encourage you to visit our website at www.habcfamily.com for a variety of resources, including ways to inform us of prayer requests, to participate in online giving, or to meet any other need you may have during this time. The church office will continue to be open from 9:00-2:00 on Mondays through Thursdays to receive prayer requests, tithes, or simply to pray with you if desired. We want to make sure your needs are met during this time.
In addition to all Sunday and Wednesday meetings, all other ministries will not be meeting during this period of time. This includes Celebrate Recovery and small groups that may meet at times other than Sundays and Wednesdays.
Understand that this decision is not driven by fear but out of a genuine love and care for the health of our church family. We, as God’s children, hold dear to these words of faith:
— Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God”.
— James 1: 2-3 “Consider it joy, my brothers and sisters, whether we face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance”.
— John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble; but take heart because I have overcome the world”.
The leadership team will continue to monitor the reports related to the spread of this virus, and will re-evaluate the circumstances at a meeting on March 29th, 2020.
Our staff will be delivering a devotional on social media periodically during these days, especially on Sunday morning and midweek. We also encourage you to implement a family-led time of pray and devotion.
